Chai Masala: Spice up your tea!

I usually flavor my tea with grated ginger or one or two split pods of cardamom. But for the last couple of months I got hooked to the tea that my first floor neighbor makes. She said that she uses the ‘Swad Tea Masala’ that she buys from the Indian store here. So last weekend I went and got myself a bottle. And then I saw Sonal Gupta’s post (she blogs here) on Chai Masala on ‘Chef at Large’ group on Facebook earlier today. I was intrigued to see that she uses peppercorn in her homemade Chai Masala. I knew I had to try making it right away. I followed her recipe to the tee and now I have my very own recipe for Chai Masala which is aromatic and adds way more flavor to my tea than the store-bought one! Thanks Sonal!

Ingredients:
  • Cinnamon – 1/2 tbs
  • Green Cardamom – 1/2 tbs
  • Peppercorn – 1/2 tsp
  • Cloves – 1/2 tsp
  • Nutmeg – 1/4 tsp
I used my coffee grinder to grind all the spices to a powdery fineness. I will be storing storing it in an airtight container.
